Who needs a Power of Attorney?

Most people setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney are doing it for themselves, or for an ageing parent. Either way, the process is built for both.

A Lasting Power of Attorney is one of the most useful legal documents anyone in England and Wales can have. Cost should not be the reason you put it off. Here is the full Lasting Power of Attorney cost picture for 2026 in the UK, including the £92 Office of the Public Guardian registration fee and the fee reductions almost nobody mentions.

The Lasting Power of Attorney cost in 2026

The full cost of a Lasting Power of Attorney in England and Wales in 2026 has two parts: what you pay Keystone (or a solicitor) to prepare the document, and what you pay the government to register it. Keystone starts from £69 with a free Will worth £59. Solicitors in the UK typically charge £300 to £600 for the exact same form. The government adds a fixed £92 Office of the Public Guardian registration fee per Lasting Power of Attorney, but many people qualify for a reduction or full waiver (see below).

The £92 Office of the Public Guardian registration fee (and when you do not have to pay it)

On top of any service fee, the Office of the Public Guardian charges £92 to register each Lasting Power of Attorney. This goes straight to the government, not to Keystone or your solicitor. We do not collect it. You pay the Office of the Public Guardian directly when you post your signed forms.

The cost for couples

Most couples in England and Wales want both Power of Attorney types each, four documents in total. With Keystone, every additional document in the same order is 25% off.

Same legality. £300+ with a solicitor. £69 with us.

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a standard government form. A solicitor charging £300+ uses the exact same one Keystone fills in for £69. What the solicitor's fee buys is knowing which boxes to tick and what order to sign, and our guided form does that for you, with a signing pack the Office of the Public Guardian cannot reject.

Caitlin, Founder

I started Keystone after my own parents got quoted £1,400 by a solicitor for two Powers of Attorney. Exact same government forms. Exact same legal result. It just felt like something that shouldn't need to cost that much.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Lasting Power of Attorney cost in the UK with Keystone?

£69 on the Digital Only tier or £89 on Print & Check (our recommended tier). Both include a free Will worth £59. Every additional document in the same order is 25% off. The Office of the Public Guardian then charges a separate £92 registration fee per Lasting Power of Attorney on top, which goes to the government, not to us.

What is the Office of the Public Guardian registration fee?

£92 per Lasting Power of Attorney as of 2026. It is paid to the Office of the Public Guardian (the government body that registers Lasting Powers of Attorney) when you post your signed forms. Without registration, a Lasting Power of Attorney cannot legally be used.

How can I get the Office of the Public Guardian fee reduced or waived?

By submitting the fee reduction form with your application. You get 50% off (£46) if your gross income is under £12,000, or a full waiver (£0) if you receive certain means-tested benefits like Pension Credit Guarantee, Income-related ESA, or Universal Credit with income under £12,000. Many of our older customers qualify and don't realise. We help you check.

Why are solicitor Power of Attorney charges so much higher?

You are paying for their time and overheads. For a straightforward case the document is identical to the one Keystone produces online from £69. A solicitor is worth the fee for genuinely complex estates: overseas assets, a business, trust structures, or a disputed family situation.

What if I make a mistake?

Free unlimited changes before you print. Save your progress, come back any time, and only pay Keystone when you are happy with your Power of Attorney. Once registered, a Lasting Power of Attorney cannot be edited. You would revoke it and create a new one, so getting it right first time matters.
